Product Description Builder

Why most product descriptions fail

Three reasons: they lead with features instead of benefits, they read like a spec sheet, and they use the same copy across every platform. Buyers don't read specifications. They scan for the answer to one question: will this solve my problem?

This builder does not use AI. It structures your own words into the format each platform rewards. You still write the substance — this tool handles the packaging.

Platform differences

  • Amazon — 5 bullet points, benefit-first, ALL CAPS lead per bullet. Then a longer description. Buyers scan bullets in 3 seconds.
  • Etsy — Storytelling matters. Etsy buyers respond to "who made it, why, and how." Short paragraphs, warm tone, search-friendly keywords woven in naturally.
  • Shopify — Long-form, SEO-friendly. Include keywords in the first 100 words. Subheadings. Benefit-led paragraphs. Works for both buyers and Google.

Structure that works on all platforms

  1. Hook — the benefit in one sentence
  2. Context — who it's for and why it matters
  3. Features — as scannable bullets, not prose
  4. Trust — shipping, returns, guarantee
  5. Call to action — one clear next step

Worked example

Weak: "This t-shirt is made of cotton. It is soft. Available in multiple sizes."

Strong: "Stay comfortable all day without synthetic fabrics. Made from 100% organic cotton, this t-shirt is pre-shrunk, machine washable, and ethically produced in Portugal. Available in sizes XS–3XL. Ships in 2 business days. 30-day returns."

Same product. Different conversion. The second answers: what problem? who's it for? what's included? what if I don't like it?

Keywords that help without stuffing

Search algorithms reward natural keyword use. Include:

  • The product name (once in the first sentence)
  • Category term ("t-shirt," "mug," "running shoes")
  • Audience term ("for remote workers," "for coffee lovers")
  • Attribute keywords ("organic," "handmade," "stainless steel")

Do not repeat the same keyword more than 2–3 times. Google and Amazon both penalize stuffing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write a product description?

Lead with the benefit, follow with a short explanation, then list features as bullets. Keep it scannable. End with trust signals like shipping, returns, or guarantee.

How long should a product description be?

Etsy: 150–300 words. Shopify: 100–250 words. Amazon: 200–500 words plus bullet points. Length matters less than clarity.

Should I use the same description on every platform?

No. Amazon favors bullet points and A+ content. Etsy favors storytelling with tags. Shopify favors SEO-friendly long-form. Adapt per platform.

What is a bullet point structure?

Benefit headline in caps, then one sentence of explanation. Example: "MACHINE WASHABLE — Safe for daily use, keeps its shape after 50+ washes."
